You should definitely upgrade your router to take advantage of higher data rates with 802.11ac (probably 3-4 times higher Mbps). Also, the WNR834Bv2 is weak for what you're doing since it outputs only 313 mW on WiFi and 1,000 mW (1 W) is common now for the best routers.
My router's also a cellar dweller, it's a Netgear R6700. Since the antennas detach, I connected the router to a few WiFi over coax kits from coaxifi.com and now the WiFi gets distributed throughout the house using cable outlets.
Or if that's not an option, you could put a MoCA adapter in the basement, and put a MoCA adapter/WiFi extender in each room you have dead zones, again using cable outlets. That costs more and duplicates the SSID though, so Coaxifi would be my pick if you have some spare cable outlets.
BTW, looks like the Coaxifi site has a list of routers it recommends.
